An examination of the effects of residential and church integration on racial attitudes of whites
Article Abstract:
The theory of interracial contact suggests that under certain conditions, interracial contact may lead to positive, tolerant racial attitudes. A study was conducted to derive an updated analysis of this contact hypothesis by using subtle, political and overt measures of European-Americans' racial attitudes. It sought to test the argument that integration within church settings is more likely to predict progressive racial attitudes among white Americans than mere residential racial propinquity because religious settings are theoretically more effective in encouraging primary rather than secondary interracial relationships.

Classifying books and knowledge - in the stores and on the Web
Article Abstract:
Independent book retailers, chains, cooperatives and web sites all offer varied styles of classification and retailing. Independents tend to focus on specific areas, such as Papyrus in New York City's Labyrinth, which specialises in philosophy, history, literature and Latin studies. Cooperative bookstores enable members to have a say in which titles are stocked, although the management takes responsibility for the final decision. Book classification on the Web is criticised as banal and simplistic.
