Triumph of the trivial
Article Abstract:
Scientists need to guard against four patterns of thought if they are to continue to make worthwhile discoveries: inertia, dualism, linearity and reductionism. Inertia inhibits change. Dualism and linearity simplify the complexity of life processes. Reductionism creates more data with arguably less understanding. To follow the patterns of such prejudicial thinking not only hinders the advancement of science but creates harmful medical practices.
