Religious choice and competition
Article Abstract:
Daniel V.A. Olson's comment contradicting the influence of competition in enhancing religious participation and improving religious organizations using a 1988 correspondence is misleading. Several studies indicate that a strong positive correlation exists between religious practice and pluralism used as an inferential measure of competition. Moreover, researches also showed that competition can be replaced by conflict in such countries as Ireland and Poland. However, early 20th century studies showed a negative effect of pluralism on church attendance in different social settings.

Do religious institutions support violence or the status quo?
Article Abstract:
A number of ethno-religious minorities were examined using data from the Minorities at Risk project to investigate whether religious institutions support violence or the status quo. Results suggest that religious institutions tend to pacify violence although they feel obligated to lead political opposition among ethno-religious minorities when threat to institutions or the religion itself is perceived. However, decisions to oppose a government system are based mainly on factors affecting the existence of the ethno-religious minorities.
