Ruminations on smell as a sociocultural phenomenon
Article Abstract:
The smell in the fields of history, anthropology, religion, gender and sociospatial analysis, that enables to comprehend and critique theoretical/conceptual trajectories employed in social science research on olfaction are explored. Ideas are developed about how one can 'do' sociology of smell where it is perceived as a social intermediary that affects the ways of knowing and understanding.

Grandmothers who are caregivers: an overlooked population
Article Abstract:
The concerns of 22 African American grandmothers who serve as primary caregivers of their grandchildren are discussed. In-depth interviews revealed an overall enjoyment of such caretaking because it put meaning back in the grandparents' lives in spite of problems such as economic hardships, lifestyle changes and the stressors coming from multiple roles.
