Suicide ideation, attempts and abuse among incarcerated gang and nongang delinquents
Article Abstract:
A self-report survey among incarcerated youths in Nevada youth correctional facilities reveals that non-gang members need greater mental health assistance than gang members. Incarcerated females showed incidents of high rates of physical and sexual abuse, and suicide attempts. Non-gang males report significantly more suicide attempts and sexual abuse than gang-involved males. Gang-involved female delinquents report more suicide attempts than males, while sexually abused gang members are more prone to suicide ideation or actual attempt.
