Too little, too late: the politics of local complacency
Article Abstract:
Interest in urban political analysis is renewed as new studies on local power and governance show the utility of long-discarded concepts. A study of the local politics in Bristol, England is made to show the relationship between classical community power studies and present urban political analysis. Bristol, a confident, conservative and complacent city, failed to adopt a process of coalescence in response to changing times. These include a changing economic climate, weakened traditional authority, oppressive nature of central/local relations and formalization of resource competition.
