Physicians are increasingly giving menopausal women testosterone to improve their libido. The therapy seems to work for some but not for others. The long-term effect of testosterone therapy in women are unknown. Potential side effects include acne, oily skin and growth of facial hair.

Menopausal women often experience memory lapse and memory failure as the level of estrogen reduces. Estrogen may help in the production of acetylcholine and affects moods when the levels become imbalanced by altering the level of serotonin. Therapeutic use of estrogen is evaluated.
