Boosting size and speed
Article Abstract:
Shipping operator TT Line plans to introduce larger and faster ferries to better serve increasing numbers of passengers during the summer months. The plan to use ships that are much lighter, faster, more environment friendly, and can carry larger passenger and cargo volumes. Shipbuilders are addressing these specifications by introducing gas turbines which are lighter, burn fuel more efficiently and take up lesser space. Other modifications include the use of light weight materials like aluminum, relocation and repositioning of decks to provide more spaces.

Quick crossings bring extra trade
Article Abstract:
The increase in the number of fast ferries serving the Irish Sea has been beneficial to all operators concerned because of the improvement in the number of people traveling to and from the region. The quick passage time offered by these vessels has managed to entice travelers to try the sea route. One of the beneficiaries of the trend has been the Isle of Man Stream Packet Co, which reported an increase in the number of passengers served for the first half of 1998 compared to the same period in 1997.
