Is Fax in a Bit of a Fix?
Article Abstract:
Modern Office Products surveyed their readers on their opinions concerning the use of facsimile equipment. They found no real enthusiasm for the usage even though its speed exceeds Telex and can match electronic mail in effectiveness. Forty-one per cent of the respondents replied that they had no interest at all in fax equipment. Incompatibility is a frequent complaint of users. Facsimiles are classified into three categories: transmission in four to six minutes, two to three minutes, and machines that transmit in less than a minute. A fourth group is under development which will be completely automated and receive a standard sized page in five seconds or under. Independent machines will become obsolete as newer models will be linked to terminals and networks, and sales will rise when prices fall. It is an industry now controlled by the Japanese. Graphs of users' opinions are included.

Women, sericulture and development: a case in South India
Article Abstract:
The restricted sphere of work as well as the marginalized status of women in Indian society are the reasons why their significant labor contribution in sericulture continues to be undervalued and underestimated. Indian culture dictates that men make the major decisions and that more value be attached to their efforts which is why women's access to productive resources and technology are largely limited. To make matters worse, women have resigned themselves to this kind of thinking.
