Facing challenges
Article Abstract:
Mitsubishi (MHI) finds it hard to sell its UEC low-speed engines abroad. Although MHI's MET turbo-chargers had 100% share on the UEC engines, the company is forced to move on to other engines as UEC represents only some 12% to 15% of the total low-speed market. MHI, which also builds its competitors such as MAN B&W and Sulzer engines, faces another problem with the merger of Wartsila and New Sulzer Diesel. MHI is concerned that the merger could affect both its licensee work and its sale of UEC engines in the low-speed sector.

When trouble strikes
Article Abstract:
The cause of engine damage can be detected by surveyors through several ways. However, surveyors encounter difficulty in assessing the damage due to lack of evidence. Surveyors can gather reliable information if the parts are uncleaned and analyzed immediately. Past engine models experienced problems of corrosion, bore polishing and carbon deposits while current models are found to have been damaged by BN depletion, undercrown deposits and oil stress.
