Article Abstract:

Major classification societies utilize the advantages of computer technology to provide better services and increase market share in a competitive environment. LR introduced its special craft rules of fast ferries on CD-ROM and also revised its ShipRight into a fully Windows-based system. BV, released its VeriStar Info, a global network that allows class information to be accessed by owners on-line. ABS, on the other hand, launched a Windows version of Safehull, allowing the fast access of all major Far East vessel types. DNV released a DNV VeriTrack that determines a vessel's maneuverability and RINA will produce a CD-ROM version of its rulebook.
