Stay safe and keep up: lifeboats
Article Abstract:
Several amendments to the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) were introduced in May 2006. MSC.1/Circ 1206 stipulated that only minimum crew need to be onboard during free-fall lifeboat drills. The amendment is an effort to reduce the number of casualties in lifeboat accidents. Opinions to this amendment are presented.

The important characteristics that a lifeboat engine must posses to start effectively and to maintain Safety of Life at Sea regulations are described. The engines must have a simple yet tough design.
