Look, no brands

Article Abstract:

Mujirushi Ryohin Europe, Japan's 'no brand goods' store concept, will open its second UK outlet in London's Covent Garden in June 1993 in partnership with Liberty. Called 'Muji', the interior of the 220 square metre outlet is designed by architect Richard Woolf whose design for the store is a blend of East and West. This is most evident on the walls, some of which have been lined with stackbonded blockwork to give a Japanese feel. A Glasgow store is being designed and the company may open between seven and 10 more stores in the UK if this is successful.

A broadside to the pirates

Article Abstract:

The EEC is examining a green paper which attempts to abolish the practice of design infringement within the Community. The new 'Community Design' proposals would protect a design in all 12 countries for 25 years and would also run in tandem with national systems until most national schemes have expired. Generally, the design industry welcomes the move to stop copying in Europe.
