News works at Burlington

Article Abstract:

News Works, an information management system, has been set up as part of an experiment at Burlington Free Press. It involves a five person team whose members are linked by computer network and allows them to track information which is part of a news package. It was designed in response to the inability of photo editors and designers to access the same information as city editors and reporters.

Article Abstract:

The Philadelphia Inquirer has been undergoing some design updates to include more graphic images and shorten stories. This has caused some internal dissension at the paper that former editor Gene Roberts raised to a pinnacle of journalistic prose. An internal memo regarding the editorial staff's concern for the paper's credibility leaked but was dismissed by an editor at the Inquirer.

Article Abstract:

Editors and publishers, of shrinking newspaper sales, have put forth a question uppermost in their minds, to ask what does the reader want and how that can be delivered. It is seen that a reader wants a newspaper to keep them entertained, with some community news given prominence along with news about local events.
