Imatinib mesylate - uncovering a fast track to adaptive immunity

Article Abstract:

Some types of gastrointestinal stromal tumors refractory to the antiproliferative effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, such as imatinib mesylate (Gleevec, Novartis), in vitro are shown to respond to the drug in vivo, with the response dependent on immune-cell function. A new type of cell in mice, which is called as the interferon-producing killer dendritic cell (IKDC), might account for the immune effect of imatinib mesylate and might act as a key link between innate and adaptive immunity.

The hot seat

Article Abstract:

Furniture design is a discipline that requires the knowledge of both material and function, a consideration that is sadly lacking in most architectural designs which are more concerned on the overall appearance of things. An ideal situation that is slowly developing is a collaboration between architects and furniture designers towards creating living environments that feature both aesthetically pleasing and functional furnitures.
