Article Abstract:

An electric vehicle charging system concept devised jointly by Hughes Power Control Systems and design consultancy Ideo has been awarded a Gold Idea 92 Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America. Ideo's range of recharging terminals are designed for safety and ease of use, while Hughes' inductive charging mechanism is claimed to allow up to 60% of complete charge within 15 minutes. General Motors plans to begin production of its first electric car in 1995, when the charging system must be ready for launch.

Cable copyright royalty claims due July 31

Article Abstract:

Copyrighted programs carried by cable systems as distant signals generate compulsory licensing royalties which must be formally claimed owner-TV stations. Eligible stations should file claims for 1996 by the 7/31/97 deadline. Individual stations can authorize the National Assn of Broadcasters can file on their behalf. A station group can file together, but each station's claim must be clearly separate in order for all stations to receive all royalties due. A sample claim form is included.

Article Abstract:

New Jersey Ballet has offered a smashing production of the ballet Esmeralda for its forty-fifth anniversary gala at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in 2005. Esmeralda is based on Victor Hugo's Notre-Dame de Paris and Fanny Elssler performed the title role for the first time in St. Petersburg in 1849.
