Aurora-A acts as a tumor suppressor and regulates self-renewal of Drosophila neuroblasts

Article Abstract:

Aurora-A (AurA) has acted as a tumor suppressor by suppressing neuroblasts (NB) self-renewal and promoting neuronal differentiation during larval brain development in Drosophila. A novel pathway that involves AurA, atypical protein kinase C (aPKC), Numb and Notch is presented for the regulation of NB self-renewal versus neuronal differentiation during the asymmetric division of Drosophila larval NB.

Genetic redundancy masks diverse functions of the tumor suppressor gene PTEN during C. elegans development

Article Abstract:

An investigation of phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN 10) tumor suppressor gene functions that eluded single mutant analyses, using a Caenorhabditis elegans genome-wide screen is presented. The worm PTEN homolog daf-18 has a role in the germline or embryos, in addition to the known role in dauer and life span regulation.

OVCAI: emerging as a bona fide tumor suppressor

Article Abstract:

The embryonic lethality of Ovarian Cancer genes 1 and 2 (Ovca1 and Ovca2) is described. An attempt made to determine whether Ovca 1 acts as a tumor suppressor in vivo is examined further.
