Community structure analyses are more sensitive to differences in soil bacterial communities than anonymous diversity indices

Article Abstract:

Sequence and terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) analyses of 1904 bacteria 16S rRNA gene clones derived from DOK soils are used to investigate the relation between bacterial diversity and bacterial community structures and their discrimination potential. Results reveal that the bacterial community structures determined by sequence and T-RFLP analyses of the three gene libraries supported changes observed by soil bacterial community level T-RFLP profiling.

Genetic and phylogeographic structures of the symbiotic fungus Tuber magnatum

Article Abstract:

Polymorphic microsatellites are used to evaluate 316 specimens grouped into 26 populations sampled across the species' geographic range to determine if natural populations of Tuber magnatum are genetically differentiated. Results reveal that the southernmost and the northwestmost populations are significantly differentiated from the rest of the populations.

Reevaluation of the life cycle of Tuber magnatum

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to inoculate host plant and to evaluate the microsatellite configurations of the resulting mycorrhizal root tips of Tuber magnatum. The analyses provide direct evidence that Tuber magnatum outcrosses and that its life cycle is predominantly haploid.
