Development of PCR primers from internal transcribed spacer region 2 for detection of Phytophthora species infecting potatoes

Article Abstract:

PCR primers and assay techniques have been established to detect and identify three Phytophthora species which infect potatoes and cause late blight and pink rot diseases. Primers based on sequence analysis of internal transcribed spacer region 2 of ribosomal DNA resulted into PCR products of 456 bp (P. infestans), 136 bp (P. erythroseptica) and 455 bp (P. nicotianae) and were employed to detect the pathogens in potato leaf (P. infestans) and tuber (P. infestans, P. erythroseptica, and P. nicotianae) tissue with a sensitivity limit of 1 to 10 pg of DNA.

Use of selective capture of transcribed sequences to identify genes preferentially expressed by Streptococcus suis upon interaction with porcine brain microvascular endothelial cells

Article Abstract:

The selective capture of transcribed sequences (SCOTS) is used to identify 28 genes preferentially expressed by the major swine pathogen and zoonotic agent Streptococcus suis upon interaction with porcine brain microvascular endothelial cells. It is demonstrated that SCOTS is suitable for the elucidation of gene expression in streptococcal species and can contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of S. suis infections.

A cyclic AMP receptor protein-regulated cell-cell communication system mediates expression of a FecA homologue in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia

Article Abstract:

Biological processes or other targeted genes controlled by the rpf/DSF system in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia were investigated. The rpf/DSF system regulated the expression of a FecA homologue, the rpf/DSF system was shown to be regulated by RpfC through protein-protein interaction and crp encoding cyclic AMP (cAMP) receptor protein (CRP) resulted in reduced FecA expression rpfF transcript level.
