Orchestrated response: a symphony of transcription factors for gene control

Article Abstract:

Orchestrated response of transcription factors for gene control is discussed in this review article. Topics include diversification of transcription factors, a requirement for co-regulators, classifying a profusion of co-activators and co-repressors, two models at opposite ends of the spectrum, and a pre-assembly model, among others.

Negative regulation of Gen4 and Msn2 transcription factors by Srb10 cyclin-dependent kinase

Article Abstract:

Budding yeast transcriptional activator Gen4 is degraded quickly in an SCF (super.Cdc4)-dependent way in vivo. Fractionation of yeast extracts to identify factors that mediate Gen4 ubiquitination was carried out. It was seen that Srb10 phosphorylated Gen4, marking it for recognition by SCF(super.Cdc4). Negative regulation of Gen4 and Msn2 transcription factors by Srb10 cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) is discussed.

Diversified transcription initiation complexes expand promoter selectivity and tissue-specific gene expression

Article Abstract:

The authors review the publications on transcription initiation. The topics of interest include the ability of tissue-specific and gene-selective core promoter complexes to regulate expressed genes responsible for such biological functions as DNA replication, germ cell maturation and organ development.
