Effect of nucleotide polymorphism in cis-regulatory and coding regions on amylase activity and fitness in Drosophila melanogaster

Article Abstract:

The changes of nucleotide polymorphism in 5'-flanking and coding regions on amylase (AMY) activity that were examined both on glucose and starch food media and in larvae and adults using three chimeric Amylase genes is discussed. The cis-regulatory region derived from the AMY allele regulated in higher AMY activity in both larvae and adults.

Genome-enabled hitchhiking mapping identifies QTLs for stress resistance in natural Drosophila

Article Abstract:

The study derives quantitative trait loci (QTL) with dense genotyping microarrays by identifying blocks of linked markers undergoing selective changes in allele frequency. Result show the allele frequency difference, averaging 40% between selected and control lines, contributed to selection response.

Environment-dependent trade-offs between ectoparasite resistance and larval competitive ability in the Drosophila-Macrocheles system

Article Abstract:

The various genetic trade-offs existing between the parasite resistance and larval competitive ability in the Drosophila-Macrocheles system is discussed. These interactions are found to be completely dependent on the temperature and the environment.
