Growth inhibition of Escherichia coli by dichloromethane in cells expressing dichloromethane dehalogenase/glutathione S-transferase

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that Escherichia coli is sensitive to low concentration of dichloromethane as indicated by growth inhibition in the presence of 0.3 mM of the compound in the culture medium. Data point out that dichloromethane lowering of intracellular pH may be one of the many factors causing growth inhibition.

Sequence variation in dichloromethane dehalogenases/glutathione S-transferases

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates isolation of eight different sequences of dcmA gene, encoding the enzyme responsible for degrading dichloromethane. The sequence variation is confined to base substitutions with no significant differences in the kinetic behavior of the encoded dichloromethane dehalogenase.

Effects of bacterial host and dichloromethane dehalogenase on the competitiveness of methylotrophic bacteria growing with dichloromethane

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to investigate the effects of bacterial host and dichloromethane dehalogenase on the competitiveness of methylotrophic bacteria growing with dichloromethane (DCM). The strains were grown under growth-limiting conditions and in the presence of an excess of DCM. Results indicate that a strain expressing the dehalogenase from DM4 had a selective advantage in continuous culture under substrate-limiting conditions.
