Efficient cloning of cDNAs of retinoic acid-responsive genes in P19 embryonal carcinoma cells and characterization of a novel mouse gene, stra1 (Mouse LERK-2/Eplg2)

Article Abstract:

An efficient differential subtractive hybridization cloning strategy has been developed to systematically isolate mouse genes whose expression is induced in P19 cells at different times following exposure to retinoic acid (RA). Fifty different cDNA fragments corresponding to RA-induced genes were isolated, of which 40 represent novel genes. Ten of the isolated cDNAs correspond to known genes, of which four have previously been identified as RA-inducible. One of the novel RA-inducible genes (Stra1) has been studied further, and it appears to correspond to a ligand for Cek5, a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase.

Temporal and spatial patterns of gene expression for the hatching enzyme in the teleost embryo, Oryzias latipes

Article Abstract:

The genes encoding the high choriolytic enzyme (HCE) present in the hatching enzyme of Oryzias latipes, a teleost fish, are expressed in the late gastrula stage in the anterior hypoblast cells. These cells then move posteriorly to the pharyngeal endoderm. Retinoic acid inhibits the differentiation of the hatching gland cells, increases the number of gland cells that move posteriorly and changes the final position of these cells. The expression of the low choriolytic enzyme (LCE) also present in the hatching enzyme is similar to that of HCE.

Cloning of cDNAs for the precursor protein of a low-molecular-weight subunit of the inner layer of the egg envelope (chorion) of the fish Oryzias latipes

Article Abstract:

Analysis of cDNA clones for L-SF, the precursor protein of a low-molecular-weight subunit of the inner layer of the Oryzias latipes egg envelope, reveals that an amino acid sequence of L-SF is similar to that of ZP3. A domain in L-SF protein is similar to ZP-domains in ZP3 of some other animals. L-SF gene is exclusively expressed in the livers of estrogen-treated male fish and spawning female fish as revealed by Northern blot analysis.
