Germ cell aneuploidy in zebrafish with mutations in the mitotic checkpoint gene mps1

Article Abstract:

A spectrum of chromosome anomalies in embryos of zebrafish homozygous for a hypomorphic mutation in Mps1, a kinase required for the mitotic checkpoint is identified. The study revealed that Mps1 is a critical regulator of chromosome number in zebrafish, and also demonstrates how slight genetic perturbation of a mitotic checkpoint factor can dramatically reduce the fidelity of chromosome segregation during vertebrate meiosis.

p38 MAP kinase inhibition enables proliferation of adult mammalian cardiomyocytes

Article Abstract:

A study shows that the adult mammalian cardiomyocytes cells can divide and the p38 MAP kinase activity is the important mechanism used by mammalian cardiomyocytes to control cell cycle. The findings of the study establish that p38 is the key negative regulator of cardiomyocyte proliferation indicating that adult cardiomyocytes can divide.

A dynamic epicardial injury response supports progenitor cell activity during zebrafish heart regeneration

Article Abstract:

Zebrafish heart regeneration proceeds through two coordinated stages following resection of the ventricular apex. The analysis has revealed injury responses by myocardial and epicardial tissues that collaborate in an Fgf-dependent manner to achieve cardiac regeneration.
