In vivo requirements for rDNA chromosome condensation reveal two cell-cycle-regulated pathways for mitotic chromosome folding

Article Abstract:

An insight into the molecular mechanisms of higher-order chromosome folding is provided by distinguishing two cell-cycle-regulated pathways for chromosome condensation in budding yeast. The findings suggest that the two distinct condensation pathways, one involving cohesins and the other Ipl1/ aurora, are required to modulate chromosome structure during mitosis.

Mad3p, a pseudosubstrate inhibitor of [APC.sup.cdc20] in the spindle assembly checkpoint

Article Abstract:

A study evaluates the spindle assembly checkpoint functions of two evolutionally conserved KEN boxes and a D-box motif within Mad3proteins. Findings suggest that anaphase-promoting complex (APC) substrates and MAD3p share overlapping binding surfaces on Cdc20p and lead the spindle checkpoint to block Cdc20p-substrate interactions.
