Metabolic engineering of Lactobacillus plantarun for production of L-ribulose

Article Abstract:

L-ribulose, a rare and expensive sugar, is produced by using L-arabinose, a common component of polymers of lignocellulosic materials, as starting material. The findings have shown how the resting cells of an L-ribulokinase-deficient mutant is used for the efficient production of L-ribulose and also how high L-ribulose yields are obtained by complexing the produced L-ribulose with borate.

Cloning and expression of a xylitol-4-dehydrogenase gene from Pantoea ananatis

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the isolation process of xylitol-4-dehydrogenase (XDH) catalyzing the oxidation of xylitol to L-xylulose from the cell extract of the Pantoea ananatis ATCC 43072 mutant strain. Results showed the secretion of L-xylulose into the medium, but without synthesization of D-xylulose by the recombinant cells.

Novel role for Aeromonas jandaei as a digestive tract symbiont of the North American medicinal leech

Article Abstract:

The characterization of gut bacteria of the North American medicinal leech, Macrobdella decora, is presented. A new habitat is identified for Aeromonas jandae, suggesting that there is unexpected specificity between leeches and Aeromonas species.
