Microtubule-induced pins/G(alpha)i cortical polarity in Drosophila neuroblasts

Article Abstract:

Cortical polarity regulates cell division, migration and differentiation and it is shown that astral microtubules, kinesin Khc-73, and Discs large (Dlg) induce cortical polarization of Pins/G(alpha)i in Drosophila neuroblasts. Results identify a role for microtubules in polarizing the neuroblast cortex, a fundamental step for generating cell diversity through asymmetric cell division.

Stepwise reprogramming of B cells into macrophages

Article Abstract:

A study demonstrates that enforced expression of C/EBP alpha and C/EBP beta in B cells leads to their reprogramming into macrophages. Observations indicate that C/EBPalpha and beta remodel the transcription network of B cells into that of macrophages through a series of parallel and sequential changes that require endogenous PU.1, an ETS family factor.
