Molecular mating type assay for Fusarium circinatum

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe a quick way of determining the mating type of a Fusarium circinatum isolate by using primers for the MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 alleles in a single PCR. The traditional method involves crossing the isolate with isolates already known to differ at the mating type locus, a time-consuming technique.

Fum3p, a 2-Ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase required for C-5 hydroxylation of fumonisins in Fusarium verticillioides

Article Abstract:

The 33-kDa FUM3 protein was expressed heterologously and purified from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and an evaluation of the FUM3p enzyme was conducted. The results indicate that Fum3p is a 2-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase is required for the C-5 hydroxylation of fumonisins in Fusarium verticillioides.

Quantification of trichothecene-producing Fusarium species in harvested grain by competitive PCR to determine efficacies of fungicides against Fusarium head blight of winter wheat

Article Abstract:

Fungicides such as metconazole and tebuconazole appear to work by reducing the level of Fusarium in grain rather than reducing the amount of trichothecene produced. A PCR-based assay based on primers from the trichodiene synthase gene was used to determine this.
