Nocardia sp. carboxylic acid reductase: cloning, expression, and characterization of a new aldehyde oxioreductase family

Article Abstract:

The cloning and expression of the first carboxylic acid reductase(CAR) gene, car, and the use of cloned enzyme in vitro and in vivo to reduce carboxylic acid substrates is reported. CAR from Nocardia sp. strain NRRL 5646 has an extremely wide substrate range, and it enantiospecifically reduces carboxylic acids.

GTP cyclohydrolase I: purification, characterization, and effects of inhibition on nitric oxide synthase in Nocardia species

Article Abstract:

The purification and biochemical characterization of GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCH) from Nocardia sp. Strain NRRL 5646 is described. Results suggest that in Nocardia cells, NOS synthesis of nitric oxide is indirectly decreased by reducing the biosynthesis of an essential reducing cofactor, BH4.

Thiols in nitric oxide synthase-containing Nocardia sp. strain NRRL 5646

Article Abstract:

Thiol formation and detection of mycothiol (MSH)-dependent formaldehyde dehydrogenase activity in cell extracts which are relevant to the possible modulation of nitric oxide toxicity generated by Nocardia sp.strain NRRL 5646 is presented.
