Oral somatic transgene vaccination using attenuated S. typhimurium

Article Abstract:

A strain of Salmonella typhimurium was transfected with the truncated genes for ActA and listeriolysin, virulence factors from Listeria monocytogenes, and used in oral vaccination. The transformed Salmonella elicited cellular and the humoral responses from the host mice. The response rate indicates that there has been a transfer of genetic material from the bacteria to the host which was substantiated by in vitro studies using peritoneal macrophages.

A cryptic proline permease in Salmonella typhimurium

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the cryptic proline transport in Salmonella typhimurium by sequencing the DNA of the suppressor proY gene. The BLAST algorithm, BLITZ server for the MPsrch program and Wisconsin Package version 8.1 were used to analyze the DNA sequence. Results have shown that the proY gene is very similar to a family of transport proteins and becomes active when overexpressed on a multicopy plasmid or induced by a proZ mutation.
