Seeing Ebola from space

Article Abstract:

European Space Agency's (ESA) satellite is being used to collect data and images of the dense jungles of central Africa to predict the possible outbreak of the deadly Ebola hemorrhagic fever. It is found that a particular environmental pattern related to the dynamics of water seems to trigger the epidemic and the dry periods in the usually highly humidity area causes a disturbance in the jungle ecosystem which lead to more contacts of humans with the animals, resulting into contamination.

Arabidopsis in space

Article Abstract:

The seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana were used in research project designed to help grow crops for long missions to the Moon and Mars and find out the influences of gravity and light on plant growth. The experiment would give botanists a better understanding of plant genetics, add to NASA's knowledge about crop plants behavior in low gravity and also help space agencies develop ways to grow food away from Earth's atmosphere.
