The Rho/Rac-family guanine nucleotide exchange factor VAV-1 regulates rhythmic behaviors in C. elegans

Article Abstract:

The C. elegans Rho/Rac-family guanine nucleotide exchange factor, VAV-1 which is homologous to the mammalian Vav proto-oncogene, has a crucial role in all the behaviors. It is shown that Rho/Rac-family GTPhases and the signaling molecule inositol triphosphate act downstream of VAV-1 signaling and the VAV-1 pathway modulates rhythmic behaviors by dynamically regulating the concentration of intracellular Ca(super 2+).

Structural basis of ligand activation in a cyclic nucleotide regulated potassium channel

Article Abstract:

The initial functional characterization of a cyclic nucleotide regulated ion channel from the bacterium Mesorhizobium loti is described, and two structures of its cyclic nucleotide binding domain with and without cAMP are presented. A model for gating is proposed in which ligand binding alters the structural relationship within a dimmer, directly affecting the position of the adjacent transmembrane helices.

SMK-1, an essential regulator of DAF-16-mediated longevity

Article Abstract:

A new component of the insulin/IGF-1 signaling (IIS) longevity pathway, SMK-1, which specifically influences DAF-16-dependent regulation of the aging process in Caenorhabditis elegans by regulating the transcriptional specificity of DAF-16 activity is reported. SMK-1 therefore plays a role in longevity by modulating DAF-16 transcriptional specificity without affecting other processes regulated by IIS.
