Yeast calcineurin regulates nuclear localization of the Crz1p transcription factor through dephosphorylation

Article Abstract:

Calcineurin, an ionized calcium protein phosphatase, plays an important role in ionized calcium dependent processes. In yeast, calcineurin operates via dephosphorylation to impact gene expression changes, a sequence similar to those of mammalian transcription factors. This finding supports a distinct conservation between mammalian and yeast cells.

The cAMP receptor protein CRP can function as an osmoregulator of transcription in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

Results show that cyclic AMP receptor protein (CRP) is a sequence-specific binding protein and primarily controls transcription in response to catabolite conditions. Data further indicate that CRP is also an osmoregulator of gene expression implicating its regulatory role involving a large number of genes.

Whi3 binds the mRNA of the G(sub)1 cyclin CLN3 to modulate cell fate in budding yeast

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that the negative regulator of G(sub)1 cyclin Cln3, Whi3 exhibits an RNA-recognition motif, which binds the CLN3 mRNA localizing to discrete cytoplasmic foci. Furthermore, Whi3 restrains Cln3 function during meiosis, filamentaion, and mating in budding yeast.
