Article Abstract:

The article addresses the conflict arising when competing paradigms of market-led and resource-driven approaches are used to drive management strategy, as both paradigms are flawed and create strategic dissonance. The potential role of operations manager input is discussed to restore strategic resonance.

An inverse link between resource commitment and market uncertainty is identified and delineated, and its impact on multinational entities assessed within a framework of strategic planning. The relationship between resource commitment and cultural distance is also described.
