CalEnergy Co has been impacted by the economic and political unrest in Indonesia, AES Corp's projects in India and Pakistan may be complicated by nuclear testing in South Asia, and the growth prospects of Zeigler Coal appear limited. AES is the sole recommended stock for investors in this industry in 1998.

Companies in the coal and alternate energy industry, such as CalEnergy Co, are acquiring others, or like Ziegler Coal Holding Co, being aquired in 1998. New power projects are being constructed by some independent power producers, or new assets being purchased, but key assets in Pakistan have become a concern to AES Corp. These stocks are diffiult to evaluate and AES Corp is the sole equity in this industry to be rcommended to investors.
