Dealing with difficult people

Article Abstract:

Many companies are turning to the practice of emotional intelligence when dealing with difficult employees. Emotional intelligence is the appreciation and awareness of the role that emotions play in the workplace. Managers are being trained in empathy, self-awareness, social skills, and self-regulation. These "soft skills" provide results. In a 15-month study, trained managers developed their businesses by 18.1% compared with 16.2% for untrained managers, resulting in about $247 million in extra revenue.
