Idempotent uninorms

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to fully characterize two broad classes of idempotent uninorms, namely, the class of conjunctive left-continuous idempotent uninorms and the class of disjunctive right-continuous idempotent uninorms. Super-involutive and sub-involutive decreasing unary operators were used to characterize in particular the important subclasses of conjunctive left-continuous idempotent uninorms and of disjunctive right-continuous idempotent uninorms. Results illustrate that any involutive negator yields a disjunctive right-continuous idempotent uninorm and a conjunctive left-continuous idempotent uninorm.

God is in the details: the Shakers knew when to stop

Article Abstract:

The best utopia of the last thousand years were the Shakers, a Quaker breakaway group who numbered 58 communities at their zenith in 1874. The divine principle was both male and female in their belief. They were pacifists who did not kill or impose their ideas by force. Their family groups were composed of from 30 to 90 members who practiced celibacy. Their furniture design and music were lasting contributions to society.
