IRX Potluck: Users Give Mixed View of Future

Article Abstract:

Users expressed a variety of opinions when informed that NCR Corp. announced there will be no major releases of the IRX operating system beyond Release 5.0. Ralph Haynes, DP manager of Nickerson Lumber Co. (Orleans, Massachusetts), believes IRX will fill the company's needs for the foreseeable future and therefore has no problem with the announcement. Darrell Murray, a DP executive at Diamond R Fertilizer (Winter Garden, Florida), is unhappy with the announcement. It is typical, Murray maintains, for NCR to introduce a product and shelve it a few years later, thereby forcing customers to upgrade with more expensive hardware and software. If not for a sizeable capital investment, Murray says he would switch to another vendor.
