International cooperative technology arrangements: improving their role in competitive strategy

Article Abstract:

A strategic management approach was employed to investigate how firms fail in their efforts to undertake international cooperative technology arrangements (ICTAs) between sovereign firms. It is discovered that a number of European managers devote a significant amount of time in the prevention of disaster in ICTAs instead of focusing their attention on success. From a strategic management perspective, this structure undermines success.

The use of heuristics in strategic decision-making process is slowly gaining ground among companies operating under a changing business environment. Heuristics, as well as other mental models, assist managers in processing information that require incorporation and articulation skills. They also allow subjective designs to deal on imperfect decisions more effectively than other decision-making methodologies.
