Multi-level production and distribution planning with transportation fleet optimization

Article Abstract:

Multi-level production and distribution network problems can be solved by mathematical programming utilizing a matrix generator designed to solve network-like problems and MPSAEX, a mathematical programming software system. Mathematical programming can be used to determine the optimal balance between production, transportation, and holding costs in the production and distribution of liquified petroleum products. Mathematical programming can determine the location of transportation breakpoints and depots in order to facilitate the distribution of the product directly to the customer by an optimally mobilized company fleet or contract carriers, thus satisfying demand at minimal cost.

Solving multi-item lot-sizing problems using strong cutting planes

Article Abstract:

Solutions were obtained for two types of multi-item lot-sizing problems: single-stage problems with joint machine capacity restrictions and start-up costs, and multi-stage problems with general product structure. The solutions were obtained by solving the problems as mixed integer programs based on the correct selection of the initial formulation of the problems, and the addition of valid inequities produced by a mathematical programming system. An important advantage of this technique is that it is robust and flexible. This technique can be used to formulate and solve model variants without incurring algorithm-adaptation costs.

Strong formulations for multi-item capacitated lot sizing

Article Abstract:

This paper presents a new solution to capacitated lot-sizing problems. This approach has the advantage that linear programming software can be used to achieve it. It uses valid inequalities to reformulate the multi-item capacitated problem.
