Murdoch reported to have bid $950 million for Britain's richest soccer club

Article Abstract:

B Sky B P.L.C. has reportedly bid $950 million for the Manchester United soccer club. Manchester's revenues of close to $45 million last year made it Britain's wealthiest soccer team. The some three million fans of Manchester United were outraged by the offer from satellite broadcaster B Sky B, which is a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation Ltd. B Sky B already monopolizes broadcasting for the 20-team British Premier League of soccer teams, and owning Manchester United could strengthen Murdoch's control over British sports. The Trade and Industry Secretary said regulators would scrutinize the bid.
