Success factors for integrating suppliers into new product development

Article Abstract:

A successful integration of suppliers into new product development (NPD) depends on several factors which suppliers and companies must overcome. Since a successful integration leads to an economical, quality, and accelerated introduction of products, a company must remove barriers that tend to limit the participation of suppliers into NPD through relationship structuring, such as shared education and training. Barriers, such as withholding of proprietary informations and the not-invented-here syndrome, are seen to affect greatly the degree of integration of suppliers into the NPD.
