Thomson joins consortium of 16 schools to start an online university. (Universitas 21 Global)

Article Abstract:

Information broker Thomson Corp. is investing $25 million to create an online business school along with a consortium of international universities. Called Universitas 21 Global, the school will serve Asia and Latin America by providing MBA and information technology degrees online. The move is part of Thomson's continuing effort to transform all of its print information into electronic form.

Inktomi expects final version of new product; Internet Shopping Engine should generate sales next period, CEO says

Article Abstract:

CEO of Inktomi Corp., David Petershcmidt, says its Internet shopping technology, Shopping Engine, probably won't even contribute $2 million to revenue in 1999. Several search engine sites use the preview version now, sites such as LookSmart, Geocities, Snap, GoNetwork and CNNfn. Two other units of Inktomi are its search engine technology and its 'caching' technology, Traffic Server.

Treating a medical mystery

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong physicians are treating cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome by combing ribavirin, an antiviral drug with steriods to some success. More ill patients receive blood transfusions from patients that have recovered. Although the cases of the disease has quadrupled in the past couple of weeks, the great majority of patients that get the drug cocktail early on recover.
