Year-2000 solutions, incubated in Israel; companies seek global business

Article Abstract:

Crystal Systems Solutions, Forsoft and Sapiens International, three small Israel-based technology companies, are experiencing success in selling year 2000 software. Each of the companies is listed on Nasdaq, while high-technology holding group Formula Systems oversees Crystal Systems Solutions and Forsoft. Crystal's C-Mill general-purpose software conversion tool has demonstrated an ability to discover and correct some software problems. C-Mill handles the year 2000 problem by essentially altering a computer's internal frame of reference by a certain number of years, or finding and indexing computer programs's variables. Forsoft leads all Israeli service providers by helping blue-chip companies and several Government departments, including the military, according to Goldman, Sachs & Company in Jerusalem. Sapiens is an independent company offering products that can translate mainframe programs written in the assembler computer language to more modern languages.
