AUSTRIA: EXSUDATIVE AMD INCIDENCE, TREATMENT
Article Abstract:
Annually about 4,000 new cases of exsudative age-related macular generation (AMD) are diagnosed in Austria. About 600 patients with AMD were treated with photodynamic therapy in Austria in year 2000, which is successful in about 60% of cases. The cost of the treatment amounts to up to Sch 250,000.

Kurt Widhalm, president of the Academy for Nutrition Medicine, estimate that 8-10% of Austrians, i.e. about 700,000 people, are obese. There has been a steep increase in obesity.
