Avondale poised to accept Litton bid

Article Abstract:

Avondale Industries Inc. announced that it is ready to accept an higher cash takeover offer from Litton Industries Inc. As a result of the deal, Avondale is foregoing an earlier merger deal with Newport News Shipbuilding Inc. Litton reached an agreement to acquire Avondale for $529 million (508 million euros). This comes out to $39.50 per share. Litton's previous offer was $38 per share.

Ericsson issues downbeat forecast and shares tumble

Article Abstract:

Fourth-quarter sales for Swedish mobile network firm Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson is expected to be lower than projected, due primarily to declines in demand for wireless networking. Sales are instead expected to be between $8.38 bil and $9.49 bil.; the news caused Ericsson's shares to drop 11%.

ADC agrees to acquire Andrew Corp

Article Abstract:

ADC Telecommunications Inc. of the United States has agreed to purchase Andrew Corp. also of the United States for $1.64 billion. The telecommunications hard wire business will gain from Andrew Corp.'s wireless infrastructure. The new venture will be valued at $3.3 billion.
