Unilever profit increased 3.4% in 2nd quarter

Article Abstract:

Unilever PLC posted an improvement of 3.4% in its profits for the second-quarter of 1999. The company reported 738 million euros in profits for the period. During the same period in 1998, Unilever posted 714 million euros. The company was helped by the improved economic atmosphere in the Asian-Pacific region. Unilever forecasted that it would post similar or improved results for the second-half of 1999.

French Premier is under pressure amid smear case

Michelin scion dies; Firm's reins leave family

Chief Executive Officer Edouard Michelin, Michelin S.A. of Switzerland has died in a boating accident at the age of 43. The tire manufacturing giant's management is now in the hands of Michel Rollier, the first time a non-family member has run the company.
