B.C.'s IGA adopts radical makeover

Article Abstract:

British, Columbia-based IGA is adopting a radical makeover by transforming itself into a new brand called MarketPlace. It has become more like a public market than a grocery store and is seeing sales increases of between 20% and 25% almost immediately following conversion. Each store has a small kitchen for demonstrations and the bakery and deli are at the core of the store. It will take 18 months to convert all of the supermarkets. Most of the advertising activity has been through in-store point-of-purchase and through the store's flyer program.

They also offer the same circulation and similar product to beat the dailies for readership. Most of the community newspapers in British Columbia belong either to Lower Mainland Publishing or to BC Newspaper Group.
