BELORUSSIA: BALTIKA BREWERY WANTS TO BUY BREWERY

Article Abstract:

Baltika Brewery wants to buy part of the Krinitsa brewery in Belorussia. The purchase price would be US$50mn. Baltika Brewery is also planning to buy another two breweries in Siberia in order to offset anticipated drop in turnover in central Russia. Baltika Brewery is 73% owned by Baltic Beverages Holding. Danish Carlsberg has an indirect interest in Baltika Brewery through its co-operation with Orkla of Norway.

POLAND: CARLSBERG MAKES A BID FOR POLISH BREWERY

Article Abstract:

Carlsberg, the brewing giant, wants to buy the remaining shares of Okocim, the Polish brewer. Carlsberg, that already holds a 50.1% stake in Okocim, yesterday published its bid for the brewer. Carlsberg thus wants to improved its prospects for strategic plans.

DENMARK: BREWERY AFFECTED BY GERMAN TAX

Article Abstract:

The introduction of a deposit of almost DKr2 (US$0.24) on German drink cans will affect Bryggerigruppen, the Danish brewing group, as nine per cent of the group's turnover is generated by border trade. The deposit will be introduced on 1 January 2002.
