Beer

Article Abstract:

The German beer market registered a slow growth of 1.9% for the period of 1991 to 1995. The year 1995 experienced very slight increase in the sales of beer in German market with a recorded volume sales of 11,541 million liters in 1995 compared to 11,326 million liters in 1991. Full strength beers, such as pils and weizen, obtained 95% of the total beer market in 1995 with 10,980,000,000 volume sales. The sluggish growth is being attributed to economic recession and the continued interest of Germans in health issues and anti-drink campaigns. The dull market, in terms of constant prices and volume sales, is expected to continue up to the year 2000.

Beer

Article Abstract:

A number of trends have been observed in the European beer industry. Beer has the largest share of the German and UK alcoholic drink markets although overall demand has fallen due to competition from non-alcoholic drinks and concerns over health and drink-driving. Consumer interests have been fueled by new products and microbrewery beers while drink-driving laws have not affected beer consumption at home.

Article Abstract:

Spain's beer market decreased by 5% in 1993 due to an economic recession, shifts in consumer drinking behavior and the government's anti-drinking efforts. However, the industry still retained a 44% share of the alcoholic drinks market. Demand for non-alcohol and special beers have also increased. Statistics on specific markets and backgrounds on major manufacturers are presented.
